Choose an Orchid, Keep it Happy
Do This:
- Find one with closed buds and maybe some blooms. You don’t want all blooms because then you have no idea if it’s already near the end of its blooming cycle.
- Set it in a sheltered spot with filtered sunlight.
- Check to see if it has a pot with a drainage hole or a plastic liner pot with a drainage hole.
- Look at the leaves and stems. They should look healthy and be bright green.
- Let it completely dry out before watering.
- Feed it with a diluted liquid fertilizer every 3rd watering.
Don’t Do This:
- Don’t repot it while it’s still in bloom.
- Don’t overwater it or use ice cubes or cold water.
- Don’t let it sit in water.
- Don’t place it in direct strong sunlight.
- Don’t set it below a vent where it will receive drafts.
- If in the kitchen, make sure it is not hit with steam or too close to heat sources.
